Thursday July 19 Meeting

Hi Everyone:
Just a reminder that the meeting tonight is in Tsawwassen. Being summer we will keep it on the social side. For our out of town members we will try a check in on 3.729 at 8:30 pacific
time. For those in town if possible monitor the frequency and pass along any checkins on VE7RDE/VE7SUN.

VE7KWK passes along a couple of tid bits.

Q SIGNALS THAT NEVER MADE IT

Some Q signals have never made it to the ARRL’s official list. Here are
some that many agree would be useful in appropriate situations. As with regular Q signals, each
can be a statement or a question, depending on whether a question mark follows it.

QBA – My antenna is BIG!
QBA? – How big is your antenna?

QBO – Don’t sit next to that guy in the meeting.
QBO? – Buddy, can you spare some soap?

QBS – It’s getting deep in here.
QBS? – Did I tell you about the one that got away?

QCP – I am using Cat Power(From Rotary Cat Power Wheel) QCP? – Are you using Cat Power?

QCW – I am going to whistle Morse Code on FM (or SSB) QCW? – Why are you whistling Morse?

QDR – Damn Right the frequency is busy! (In response to QRL) QDR? – Do you have a Receiver? (In response to QRL)

QET – Phone home.
QET? – Has anyone called me from another planet?

QFH – This frequency is MINE! – go elsewhere.
QFH? – Is this frequency hogged?

QHI – I am jumping in quick to say hi, then going QRT. QHI? – Are you leaving after only one transmission?

QLF – I am sending with my left foot.
QLF? – Are you sending with your left foot?

QOK – Your last transmission was Okie Dokie.
QOK? – Was my last transmission OK?

QPM – Your signal is purr modulated.
QPM? – Is my signal purr modulated?

QRC – Warning, rag chewer on frequency.
QRC? – Are you a rag chewer?

QWC? – Who cares?
QWC – I don’t care

QZZ – I fell asleep at the mike.
QZZ? – Is that a 60Hz hum, or are you snoring?

Thursday July 12

Hi Everyone:
The meeting tonight is at North Delta. Beat the heat and come to an air conditioned building. Hope to see you all there at 7 Gord

2012 Celebration of Light

The 2012 Celebration of Light is right around the corner.  This year the event does take place on July 28, August 1 and August 4th.  VECTOR does have
a significant role in this event, and we would like to keep the tradition going.

We are going to require a large number of operators on each night, this year, we are making some very significant changes.  We will no longer have
access to the Coast Guard Station (all of the land operations have been moved out of the building).  We are currently looking for a new place to have
an Incident Command Post that the stake holders we are involved with would agree to use, and that all of these people would be let into the
facility.  We should have this identified in the next week or so.  In the event we cannot find a suitable facility, the fall back would be all the agencies
moving back to our EOC and Radio Room.  In any event, we will overcome the challenges, and move forward with one of the best CoL events yet.

If you are available for any or all of these nights, if you could send me an email atjforsyth@vectorradio.ca , I would appreciate it.  In the email if you could tell me the nights that you are available, if you have a favorite position or a favorite side of the beach, I would appreciate it.  We will be setting up a formal briefing for all of our volunteers (VECTOR and ESS), on the 18th of July.

Anyone wanting more information, send us an mail and we will answer your questions.

This is an event that our members typically have some fun at, so I would encourage you to come out have some fun and hone your communications
skills.

Cheers,

Jim

EchoLink is Back

The EchoLink repeater is back on the air with an interim antenna. I may
need to adjust audio levels, so if someone could test it out and let me
know how it’s working, that would be great.

DARS Canada Day Contest

VA7BJC, VA7QLT, VE7CLX and VE7FKY worked the VE7SUN call sign for the Canada Day Contest. Although our score will not win us any prizes we had a fun filled Sunday morning working the contest. The team managed to work 6 provinces, 2 RAC Stations, and many US stations from west to east coast. To show our flag waving is working we worked two other BC Club stations who came back to us knowing who we were. We also worked fellow club member VE7WO. Hopefully we can get more to join the fun next time. We’ll be putting together a team for the free star dstar contest labor day weekend and the RAC winter contest in December.

VE7SUN – RAC Contest

Hi Everyone:

I plan to be at NDPSB shortly after 9:30 am tomorrow operating VE7SUN for the RAC contest. VA7BJC and VE7CLX are part of the crew coming in throughout the day. If you wish to join us please stop by and give the contest a try. Whatever time you can spend is fine. Depending on band conditions and the success we have we should be operating into the early afternoon.

If your not able to join us at the building but your working the contest from home keep an ear open for us. The plan is to work 20m and 15m phone depending on band conditions, but you never know we could show up anywhere the propagation takes us.

Hope to see or hear you on.
