DARS News Notes

February 21 is our annual AGM meeting at North Delta. Election of officers for 2013 will take place. All positions (president, Vice President, Secretary/treasurer, directors) will be voted on at the meeting. Please plan on attending and help steer the course for 2013.
***********************April 2 is start of our Basic Amateur Radio Course. Please help to spread the word, and all info can be found at www.deltaamateurradio.com and look for course certification at the top.

April 25 is our fund raiser Burger & Brew night at the Sundance Pub. Oz (VE7OSK) has tickets available for $15. This has always been a fun event in the past, so bring along some friends to enjoy the evening. Under a separate email I’m sending a donation letter. Were asking all members if they can canvas in your area for donations for the evening. If every member could get just get one donation it would give us enough prizes for the evening. Gift certificates are perfect. HINT: Try some place where they know you.

From the DID YOU KNOW DEPARTMENT:

Did You Know that we have an under 20 night on Sundays and Tuesdays? What an under 20 night you ask? It’s for anyone who would like to learn/brush up on their cw. 20 wpm is the max and mistakes even lots of them are allowed. Sunday and Tuesday at 7pm on 28.020
Did You Know that VE7OSK on meeting nights stands by around 8:30 pm monitoring for any checkins on 3.729. Great for our out of area members.
Did You Know that DARS has three grab and go kits that all members are encouraged to borrow and play with?
-two vhf/uhf/DSTAR kits with antenna and power supplies
-one HF kit with power supply.
What an excellent way for members who may not have some of this equipment to take it home, try it out and have some fun and get on the air. Full instructions are in every kit.

For those of our members who have lack of real estate for putting up towers, dipoles etc., I’ve attached a pdf file of an antenna that VE7DS put up for his nephew on his deck of his condo. Have a look as it’s simple and could be an answer for several of our members. VE7DS, informs us, with this antenna his nephew has work quite a bit into Europe and other areas.
The interesting evening we had on Thursday with antennas, I’m in the process of putting together an evening of possible antennas for those who have real estate challenges. Stand by for more news on a date.
