Oswald (Os) Kienapfel VE7OK

On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, Os unexpectedly died at the age of 71. As member number 51, he had been a longtime member of the club.

Os led the weekly “20 Below Morse Code Club” every Sunday at 19:00 and attended the majority of the club’s meetings. He was involved in the Point Roberts club’s emergency program and had a keen interest in emergency preparedness. Os usually set up and ran the 80m/10m station and was an invaluable asset on the annual field day.

At the beginning of the club’s gathering on Thursday, January 8, 2026, members paid tribute to him by calling him three times on the club repeater in the customary manner. The chairman declared “Victor echo seven oscar kilo – silent key” after receiving no response.

Members reflected on what they remembered about Os. Many were taken aback by the unexpected news. Most people remember him for having a good sense of humour and being fun. He was frequently silly and didn’t take life too seriously. He thought in an unconventional way, and his club presentations were unique. Os was often the first person new members spoke to at the club, and they found him to be warm, inviting, and kind.

The membership valued him and will miss him greatly.
