Amateur Radio Operator Certificate – Online Self Study

This self-paced online course covers the skills required to obtain the Basic Amateur Radio Operator Certificate, issued by Industry Canada, to operate on the amateur radio bands.

People have different motives for obtaining the certificate such as expanding knowledge of radio communication technology, improving operator skills, providing communication in remote locations, support public service events, emergency communication operations and many other aspects of a hobby.

The course requires about 50 hours of study. There are 13 units, each involving: 1 hour of reading (with a study guide), 2 hours of viewing a video presentation (view sample) and 1 hour of private study. Once the course is started, you will have 3-months to complete the course.

The units include:

  • Basic foundation skills
  • Regulations and policies
  • Ohm’s law and power
  • Inductance/capacitance
  • Active devices
  • Transmitters/receivers
  • Waves and propagation
  • Antennas

The examination will be facilitated in person on request.

The course fee of $60 includes access to video presentations, all materials needed for the hands-on exercises, tests at the end of each unit and examination by an accredited examiner. In addition, you will be required to order your own copy of the “Canadian Amateur Radio Basic Qualification Study Guide” ($44.95) available from COAX publications.

Payment may be made by credit card, Interac e-Transfer and mail-in cheque. You will receive an invoice following completion of registration below.
