Thursday Nov 27 Meeting

Hi everyone:
The meeting tomorrow night is at North Delta. We have a special guest coming. A constable from the Delta Police force will be joining us to talk about the distracted drivers law. You might remember we had a couple of meetings back in September about the law and amateur radio. In response to a couple of members who suggested it might be a good idea to have a meeting with the police I want to thank George (VE7GCB) who worked his magic to have a constable with us tomorrow night.
See you tomorrow night at 7.

Christmas Party

Jeanne is organizing our annual Christmas party for Thursday Dec. 11. She needs to know a rough count if you will be attending so she can get a food order put in. As in the past spouses or a friend are welcome. If you plan to attend please email Jeanne by Dec 4 and if you will be bringing someone. If you wish to bring a dessert it would be appreciated.

BC QSO Party (BCQP) – February 7, 2015

The BCQP will be held on February 7, local time, 8am to 8pm (UTC 1600z Feb 7 to 0400z Feb 8).

Rules, tools, helpful hints, in-depth event analysis/reports and scores from past years, examples of the lovely photo-based certificates and plaques… all available for viewing from links on the BCQP page of the Orca DXCC website. Go to http://www.orcadxcc.org/bcqp.html
As always, top scores in every class receive a one-of-a-kind certificate showcasing beautiful BC . It’s a different photo every year and taken especially for the BCQP certificates and plaques. Definitely shack-worthy.

In addition, the plaque program has been extremely well-received, and thanks to sponsors there will be plaques in eight categories: Top BC Score, Top YL Score, Top Score Canada Outside BC, Top US Score, Most Electoral Districts Contacted, Top Rookie, Top DX, and Top Mixed Mode (new!).
To see how the 2014 certificate and plaque photos turned out, go to http://www.orcadxcc.org/bcqp_awards.html

Sponsorship of a plaque is open to any club, organization or individual involved in our hobby and the cost is just $45, so if you are interested or know someone who is, please contact me or pass along my email address. There are still many possible plaque categories: top score in a single mode and/or power, top single-band score, top team or top club score, or …

BCQP is an opportunity to hone operating skills, try out a new mode, pass on knowledge to others, enjoy the camaraderie of a team effort, support a home-grown contest, beat last year’s score, capture a unique, photo-based certificate or maybe a plaque, test out equipment and/or software, or simply, meet up with some good people.

As contest coordinator for BCQP, I am here to help. If DARS members have questions, I’m just an email away.

VC7SJAM News
Chris advises he now has a calendar on the website so members can book times during the month of January to use the special event call sign from home. You will find the link to the calendar in the blue box just below the header on the main page. The calendar page is quite easy to fill out. Just click on the date or dates you wish and then fill out the form below the calendar. Once Chris receives your form he will insert it into the calendar so the next person can see what days have been taken and what days are still available.

For those who replied to my email about operating at one of the two libraries for the event I will be sending out an email later today. As we would like to accommodate as many of your wishes to band, modes etc. I would ask you to reply to the email with your suggestions and once tallied will pass over to the technical folks to see how we can full fill most of your wishes.

Prior to Adam’s talk last night we had a quick discussion on replacing the VE7SUN VHF repeater that is over thirty years old. Tom caught wind of an excellent deal on a brand new repeater and the vote was unanimous to buy one of these repeaters if still available. Will let you more when we find out the results of Tom’s inquiries.

Adam’s talk last night was very interesting on World War II German Radar. He will be back in the new year with another of his presentations.

For those who use the radio room over at NDPSB the commissioners now have a membership list and you will have to provide ID to them before they give you the key.

Have a good week everyone

Thursday Oct 30 Meeting

Hi Everyone:

The meeting tonight is at North Delta at 7pm. Tonight we have a guest speaker. Adam Farson (VA7OJ/AB4OJ) is back again. This time his talk his on World War II radar. This promises to be another interesting evening. Hopefully everyone can make it. We do have the large room booked for tonight.

Just a quick note on our special event station VC7SJAM starting January 1, 2015. Since we first came up with the idea for the special event station I have been in contact with the Kingston Organizing committee about what we were up to. I knew they want to put something on their website to give us exposure but I wasn’t quite expecting they would do an article with excerpts from my various emails.

ComFest Thankyou

Thank You Everybody

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in ComFest for this year. Whether you were part of the setup or tear down crew, worked in the eyeball cafe, a vendor, part of 50/50 selling team, admissions, or came out to see what was happening made this probably the most successful year yet. We knew we were in for a good day when we had to open the doors about 15 minutes early because we plugged the lobby. We won’t know the final totals for a day or so, but all indications point to this being a super year.

I saw some cameras going off so if you can send a few over to Chris to put on the website it would be most appreciative. chris@chris-s.org

We couldn’t have done it without YOU.
